The Artist

Leah "Rocketship" Jacobs

Background and Passions

I used to travel around the U.S. in a veggie school bus playing music on the street. When I decided to set down roots in my home state of Vermont, I had to find new fulfilling ways to make a living. In June of 2014, I came across an article about a German goldsmith in Burlington, VT. I reached out to her, and we worked out a mutually beneficial arrangement for an apprenticeship. For five years, Jane Frank taught me the trade of fine jewelry making. I honed my skills with various metals, setting stones, wax sculpting, and metal clay. I have always loved working with my hands and enjoy fine detail.

A little more...

I am not a one trick pony though, and I dream big. In 2021 I graduated from a Landscape Contracting program. I continue to educate myself on topics revolving around plants and environmental conservation. I dream of having a small flower farm where I can share my love of blooms and hold workshops to educate the public on environmentally friendly practices. My fascination for nature often shows up in the jewelry I create. I have not abandoned music, either.

My Music

I play acoustic guitar, upright bass, banjo, and the drums. I have been playing drums in a crusty punk band called Black Axe, since 2016. My instrument of choice is my voice and I have a passion for dancing.

A few more things...

I have an attraction to the strange and unusual and I find beauty in the cycle of life, waning to death, which flourishes back into life. This side of myself is expressed in the piñatas I make for friends and family. I like putting forth the effort to create something that is meant to be destroyed. It also shows up in the authors I am fond of which include H.P. Lovecraft, Philip K. Dick, Clive Barker, Ray Bradbury, Anne Rice, Chuck Palahniuk, Orson Scott Card, and Ursula K. Le Guin.

Some passions...

My favorite season is Fall when there is magic in the air as the Vermont hills spike with color and the wind blows around the scent of moist earth on a starry night. I love to dress up and I love to make Halloween themed foods.
